Spero (hope in Latin) is part of the small team’s dream to introduce sustainable mobility in India taking cues from India’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP 2020). We froze on pedelecs (pedal electric cycles) as a niche to enter the evolving electric mobility sector owing to memorable experiences riding them through the cities of Italy and New Zealand. Access to captive design and manufacturing facilities emboldened manufacture of prototypes with locally available and imported materials by end 2015.

Continuous testing and deeper understanding of BL(brusheless) DC motors, power electronics, sensors and lithium storage enabled freeze of the first commercial variant in less than 12 months. The required dies, fixtures and overseas collaborators were put together to launch e-series range with 3 mileage variants and in 3 colours by mid 2017

A spirited discussion with friends during a routine feedback / test ride led us to a unique goto market strategy opportunity; Coimbatore breathes an air of risk taking appetite and the decision to launch an untested product through a never attempted goto market strategy gave India her first pedelec(with varied mileage options tested upto 160kms/charge) through a crowd funding campaign.

Overwhelming response for pedelecs from enthusiastic India led to three successful campaigns and this success not only saw the introduction of the second variant – euseries - but the thumping demand led to the formation of an independent company Spero Mobility & Energy Solutions P Ltd. to focus on mobility as well as lithium storage solutions.

Team Spero travelled the length & breath of the country during the campaigns, offered test rides, understood Indian customer expectations and helped shape a long term pathway for the new company.

The timely delivery of the crowd funded pedelecs by mid-2017 led the company to focus on developing the right variant for the growing e-commerce and last mile-delivery companies. Working with India’s large companies, trials across 4 states resulted in the launch of c series with custom cargo holding options.

SPERO has been designing and integrating its own battery packs in varied form factors and capacities with support from global cell and BMS manufacturers. With the knowledge built over the years, we currently cater to demand for storage solutions in non-conventional energy production, industrial applications, fossil fuel powered automobiles and domestic appliances.
